History

Credit Europe Bank NV was founded in 1994 in the Netherlands as part of Fiba Holding AS under the name Finansbank. The bank started with a capital of less than 10 million euro and it initially focused on international trade finance. Since its incorporation, Credit Europe Bank is under full supervision of the Dutch Central Bank.

In 1997 the bank expanded into Germany by opening a branch in Frankfurt and in 2000 a branch was opened in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2007 Credit Europe Bank started a greenfield operation in Ukraine as well as a branch in Malta. The bank also opened representative offices in China (Shanghai) and in Turkey (Istanbul).

After the sale of Finansbank AS Turkey to the National Bank of Greece in 2006, the bank was rebranded into Credit Europe Bank NV in 2007. Another consequence of the sale was that the Russian group entity (established in 1997) became a subsidiary of Credit Europe Bank.

In the year 2008, after a group restructuring program, the existing Romanian and Swiss entities became subsidiaries of Credit Europe Bank and in the same year the bank opened a subsidiary in Dubai.

In December 2010 Credit Europe Bank NV completed the acquisition of a 95% stake in the Turkey-based subsidiary of Banco Comercial Português SA (BCP). The bank was rebranded in 2011 as Fibabanka A.S.

Today, Credit Europe Bank is an international financial services group with a balance sheet of around € 10 billion.
